WELCOME BOWL EVENTS GEORGIA TCU HONORS BOWL HISTORY SPECIAL THANKS 1981 1985 1991 1991 – In front of a record crowd of 61,497 fans, Air Force upset the Mississippi State Bulldogs, 38-15. Falcon QB Rob Perez earned MVP honors for the second year in a row, becoming the only player in AutoZone Liberty Bowl history to earn the honor twice. 58th AutoZone Liberty Bowl | 169 1982 – The nation tuned in to see the final game in the storied career of Alabama head coach Bear Bryant. The Crimson Tide used seven interceptions – three by MVP Jeremiah Castille – to defeat Illinois 21-15 in front of an AutoZone Liberty Bowl-record crowd of 54,123. 1983 – Doug Flutie earned MVP honors after passing for 287 yards and three TDs. However, a failed twopoint 1984 – Behind an MVP performance by Bo Jackson, No. 16 Auburn outlasted Arkansas, 21-15. Jackson rushed 18 times for 90 yards including a 39-yard TD run in the fourth quarter. 1985 – Baylor QB and game MVP Cody Carlson led the Bears to a 21-7 upset victory over the No. 12-ranked LSU Tigers. The Bears used a balanced offensive attack to outgain the Tigers by nearly 300 yards. 1986 – Three TD passes from MVP Jeff Francis lifted Johnny Majors and the Tennessee Vols past Minnesota, 21-14. 1987 – John Kasay’s 39-yard field goal as time expired propelled No. 15 Georgia to a 20-17 victory over Arkansas. Down 17-7 heading into the fourth quarter, Vince Dooley’s Bulldogs rallied to score 13 points to defeat Ken Hatfield and the Hogs. attempt by Boston College allowed Notre Dame to escape with the win, 19-18. 1981 – No. 15 Ohio State slipped by Navy 31-28 behind the running of tailback Eddie Myers. Myers earned MVP honors after rushing for 117 yards on 30 carries. 1988 – Indiana QB and game MVP Dave Schnell threw for 378 yards and two scores to lead the Hoosiers past the South Carolina Gamecocks, 34- 10. Indiana dominated the game on both sides of the ball, outgaining the Gamecocks 575-153. 1989 – Inspired by injured teammate Chuckie Mullins, the Ole Miss Rebels trumped the Air Force Falcons, 42-29. Rebels RB Randy Baldwin earned MVP honors after rushing for 177 yards and a score. 1990 – No. 24 Ohio State fell behind in the second quarter and never recovered as Fisher DeBerry and Air Force shocked the Buckeyes 23-11. Falcon QB Rob Perez was named MVP after rushing for 94 yards and 2 TDs.
