SPECIAL THANKS TCU GEORGIA 176 | 58th AutoZone Liberty Bowl BOWL HISTORY HONORS BOWL EVENTS WELCOME A LOOK BACK… 25 Years Ago | December 29,1991 – Air Force vs. Mississippi State Before a then-record crowd of 61,497, the Air Force Falcons defeated the Mississippi State Bulldogs 38-15 due in large part to a menacing rushing attack. The Falcons’ patented wishbone ground game gashed the Bulldog defense for 318 yards. Air Force Quarterback Rob Perez led the Falcon offensive attack as he ran for 114 yards and a touchdown, earning the game’s MVP award. Perez became the only player in AutoZone Liberty Bowl history to earn the honor twice. 50 Years Ago | December 10,1966 – Miami (FL) vs. Virginia TecThe 8th annual AutoZone Liberty Bowl pitted #9 Miami against Virginia Tech. Both teams were stout defensively as hVirginia Tech boasted All-Americans Frank Loria and George Foussekis, while Miami was led by threetime All-American and future NFL Hall of Fame Linebacker Ted Hendricks. In what was a defensive battle for most of the game, the Hurricanes used two second half scores to defeat the Hokies 14-7. Miami Tight End Jimmy Cox was named the game’s MVP for his five-catch, 77- yard performance, as he amassed nearly half of Miami’s 163 yards of total offense.
