Game Notes RB Latavius Murray Pro connections: • Prior to joining Oakland, Raiders quarterbacks coach Todd Downing spent the 2014 season with the Buffalo Bills where he worked with Bills QB EJ Manuel. • Raiders tight ends coach Bobby Johnson was the assistant offensive line coach for the Buffalo Bills from 2010-11, when the Bills’ offensive line ranked tied for seventh in the NFL with just 57 sacks allowed over those two seasons. • Raiders wide receivers coach Rob Moore held the same position for Buffalo in 2014, where he helped WR Sammy Watkins set franchiserookie records with 65 receptions and 982 yards. • Bills assistant head coach/defense Rob Ryan spent five seasons as the Raiders defensive coordinator from 2004-08, where his defense led the league in pass defense (150.8 ypg) and ranked third in total defense (284.8 ypg) in 2006. • Bills offensive line coach Aaron Kromer had a four-year stint with the Raiders from 2001-04, starting as an assistant offensive line coach in 2001 before being promoted to the offensive line coach in 2002. • Bills wide receivers coach Sanjay Lal got his start in the NFL as the assistant wide receivers/quality control coach with the Raiders in 2007-08. Lal was later promoted to wide receivers coach from 2009-2011. Lal was also invited to training camp as a player with the Raiders in 1995. • Bills outside linebackers coach Jeff Weeks served as a defensive assistant with the Raiders in 2008. 6 Gameday MAGAZINE • Bills LB Lorenzo Alexander played for the Raiders in 2015, recording seven special teams tackles. Alexander is also a native of Berkeley, Calif., where he attended St. Mary’s High School before playing collegiately at Cal. • Raiders Head Coach Jack Del Rio and Bills Head Coach Rex Ryan worked together from 1999-2001 with the Baltimore Ravens serving as the linebackers coach and defensive line coach, respectively. Raiders assistant defensive backs coach Rod Woodson played safety for the Ravens during those three years. College connections: • Raiders DE Khalil Mack played collegiately at Buffalo from 2010- 13, starting all 48 games in which he appeared and setting an NCAA record with 16 forced fumbles. Mack totaled 327 tackles (186 solo), 28.5 sacks, 75 tackles for loss, 16 forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, four interceptions and 21 passes defensed. • Prior to coaching in the NFL, Bills wide receivers coach Sanjay Lal spent three seasons (2004-06) as an offensive assistant and quarterbacks coach at Cal and captured a share of the school’s first Pac-10 title in 2006. Lal also spent time as the quarterbacks and strength, speed and conditioning coach at Saint Mary’s college in 2004 and a wide receivers coach at Los Medanos College in 2003. Lal also spent six years as the passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach at Miramonte (Calif.) High School Hometown connections: • Raiders RB Latavius Murray is a native of Nedrow, N.Y., where he attended Onondaga Central High School and totaled 2,194 yards on 175 carries with 28 touchdowns as a senior.
