Pistons in the Community The Pistons will raise awareness on the importance of recycling through their “Get Caught Recycling” program and PSAs promoting environmental education and sustainability. In partnership with Flagstar, the Pistons will help implement the Math Hoops board game into local classrooms, making math fun and interactive while improving math scores. The Pistons will also host an event that will bring the game to life, using Pistons players as pawns in the game. Detroit Pistons 2016–17 Yearbook 103 The Pistons will work to increase awareness and involvement in youth basketball through community clinics, an online newsletter, Pistons Academy camps, and partnerships with basketball leagues across the state. The Pistons are proud to celebrate and honor veterans and active duty military through a special Veterans Day Game, Commitment to Service opportunities, and will host a special career fair dedicated to connecting veterans with local companies. In partnership with Farm Bureau Insurance, the Pistons opened their 33rd Live, Learn & Play Center with a renovated library at Doyle-Ryder Elementary School in Flint, where they were without a resource center for over two years. The Pistons will focus on driving positive change amongst Metro-Detroit youth. As part of the #InRealLife campaign, Pistons players will share their stories about their mentors and how they have been affected by these role models, as well as encourage others to become mentors.
