Game Changers By Jared Turner Top Five Changes Coming in 2017 The dawn of every new NASCAR season brings about numerous changes, and 2017 is no exception. Here are the four biggest changes coming to the sport this year. The Monster Energy Era Goodbye, Sprint/Nextel. Hello, Monster Energy. For only the third time in the 68-year history of NASCAR, the sport’s premier series has an all-new entitlement sponsor. In December, NASCAR announced that Monster Energy would replace Sprint/Nextel. The telecommunications giant replaced the RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company and its Winston brand in 2004. The new multi-year agreement between NASCAR and the world-renowned energy drinks company makes Monster Energy the Official Energy Drink of NASCAR and gives Monster Energy entitlement rights on the NASCAR New rules will limit Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series drivers’ participation in the NASCAR XFINITY Series and the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series this season.
