2017 Baltimore Ravens Yearbook

WHAT’S THE GOOD WORD? ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio on the Ravens’ 2017 outlook (March 29, 2017): “They are a very completive team, as we saw last year. Great coach, great quarterback. To me there are really only three teams in the conference – the Patriots, the Steelers and the Ravens. When you have Joe Flacco, when you have John Harbaugh, and when you have the kind of ownership that is willing to spend money and support the team, you are always going to be competitive. I will say this: I think the Ravens are itching to get back to the playoffs, and this is a team that does not want to sit on the sidelines this year. To me, this is a year where the Ravens go back and challenge the Pats for supremacy in the AFC.” NFL Films Greg Cosell on the Ravens signing Tony Jefferson: “To me, that’s a really good signing, particularly to pair with Eric Weddle, because Jefferson is a complete safety, multi-dimensional. He’s gotten better and better in his career at playing man coverage. Last year was his best year playing manto man on tight ends. He’s a very good blitzer. You can use him in a lot of different ways, and he can be effective in all those ways. That was a very under-the-radar signing for probably a lot of people, because he’s not a quoteunquote household name. But I think Tony Jefferson is a really good player.” ESPN.com’s Pat McManamon on the Ravens’ offseason free agency moves (March 27, 2017): “Building a successful unit via free agency can be difficult, but the Ravens’ trio of moves to shore up their defense have logic behind them. Retaining nose tackle Brandon Williams (left) keeps one of the best players at his position in Baltimore. Adding Tony Jefferson and cornerback Brandon Carr strengthens the secondary. Jefferson was the best safety on the market; Carr has not missed a game since he joined the NFL in 2008. Baltimore spent almost $60 million in guaranteed money on these three players, but they are moves that should put the Ravens right back in the playoff hunt in 2017.” Sports Illustrated’s Chris Burke on the Jeremy Maclin signing (June 16, 2017): “Impact roster additions in June are few and far between for NFL teams. Jeremy Maclin could be – in all honesty, should be – just that for the Baltimore Ravens.” 138 2017 BALTIMORE RAVENS YEARBOOK
