So many great performers and performances to
choose from in Week 13, which was the week where a
heap of the game’s most ancient rivals faced off with
high stakes. Individuals with Heisman stakes stepped
up as well.
Ohio State’s Dwayne Haskins crushed Michigan’s
dreams with a five-touchdown passing performance
in that rivalry game. Kyler Murray of Oklahoma once
again had an explosive game, passing for three
touchdowns and running for another in a huge win
over West Virginia that sent the Sooners to a Big
12 title game rematch against Texas. Once again,
a quarterback opposing Murray also ran up huge
numbers, as the Mountaineers’ Will Grier threw for
539 yards and four touchdowns on almost 50 passing
attempts. Washington’s Myles Gaskin carried the flag
for running backs, rushing for 170 yards and three
scores to upend Washington State’s Pac-12 dreams.
All told it was a Thanksgiving weekend that lived up
to the hype, and one player, who we’ve been hinting
at all season, finally gets our nod for the performance
of the week. Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa beat Auburn in
the Iron Bowl as the Tide blew out another opponent.
He’d made it look easy all season long, but this time
Tagovailoa’s numbers were unassailable: 324 yards
and five touchdowns through the air, one touchdown
on foot, all in the biggest rivalry game of the year for
Nick Saban’s troops.
Somewhere on this day a Heisman Trophy winner
solidified his case.
