ATLANTA’S NEWEST ATTRACTION
AAtlanta has Olympic rings, the world’s largest falcon
statue and now it has a giant peach.
To commemorate its 50th Anniversary last season, Peach
Bowl, Inc. donated a 30-foot, steel-peach art sculpture to
the city of Atlanta.
“It’s amazing to see how far the Bowl has come over these
past 50 years,” said Peach Bowl, Inc. CEO and President
Gary Stokan. “We wanted a way to say thank you to the
city of Atlanta and the fans who have come to our games,
and what better way to do that than with a giant peach
The peach sculpture is located between Mercedes-Benz
Stadium and the Georgia World Congress Center – in East
Plaza – for fans to visit year-round.
Two years in the making, the artwork came to life thanks
to seasoned artist Gregory Johnson and his team of
fabricators. Johnson has created nearly 1,000 sculptures
spread throughout 17 counties in Georgia, 40 states and
seven countries, but none quite like the 30-foot steel-peach
that stands in the shadows of Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
“It’s a beautiful, modern structure that’s mirror-finished,
refractive, reflective, and what I think is a really beautiful
design,” said artist Gregory Johnson “I would like to think
it will be a destination point where people will really want
to come see it.”
On the heels of the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl’s Golden
Season, Stokan and the Peach Bowl, Inc. staff hope the
peach serves as a must-see attraction in the city of Atlanta
for years to come.
