As Mayor of the “City of Trees,” I’m thrilled to welcome you to Boise
and to Albertsons Stadium for the 2018 Famous Idaho Potato Bowl.
Now in its 22nd year, this event has become more than just another
football contest. Not only is the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl the
northern-most bowl game in the country; its arrival means the
NCAA’s annual bowl game series is in full swing and serves for
many as the unofficial start of winter break. In a city that adores
its Boise State University Broncos, the game is also a chance to bid
farewell to the stadium’s signature blue turf until next season.
Those of you visiting Boise for the first time are in for an exceptional
experience. Our city has been widely recognized as one of the most
successful in the country, embracing progress while maintaining
the small-town warmth, vibrancy, and livability that has always
been its hallmark. From our picturesque Foothills, gateway to
year-round outdoor recreation, to our walkable and dynamic
downtown, home to more than 300 shops and restaurants, Boise
offers it all. And Boise State University is an essential partner, with
a national reputation that goes far beyond football to encompass
academics, research, and economic development.
The Famous Idaho Potato Bowl wouldn’t be possible without the help of countless individuals, organizations, and
businesses that come together each year to make it happen. That’s the other thing that makes Boise one-of-a-kind:
people who know how to get things done—and how to have fun.
Best wishes for an outstanding game and an even better year to come.
David H. Bieter
