MORE THAN A TAILGATE
A LOT TO CELEBRATE
BY CHRIS McPHERSON
If you get to Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday when the first gates to the
parking lots open at 6 a.m., well, you might be a little late to the party.
The lines outside the entrances begin to form in the early morning hours
for the game before the game. There are only eight opportunities during the
regular season to celebrate before an Eagles game. The elaborate parties and
reunions spread throughout the asphalt surrounding Lincoln Financial Field are
events unto themselves.
A walk through the parking lots is an adventure for the senses from the
sumptuous feasts to the live music creating a fun and festive atmosphere to get
everyone ready for a day of cheering on the Birds.
Of course, special games call for special tailgates.
Before the season opener against the Atlanta Falcons, the infamous jersey
owned by Giants fan Joseph Ruback that read “SUPERBOWLS” on the back with
the number 0 was burned. Eagles fans purchased it from Ruback with money
going to charity. President Don Smolenski was not only on hand but used a
torch to light the jersey ablaze.
