SHAWN HEINLEN SOUTHWEST AREA SCOUT
Shawn Heinlen was named the Eagles’
Southwest area scout in the 2018 off season.
Starti ng in 2001, Heinlen spent 16 years with
the Buff alo Bills, including the fi nal 14 as a
college area scout. From July 2001-May 2003,
Heinlen was the team’s college scouti ng
administrator and served as a Training Camp
intern in 1999 and 2000. Prior to coming to
Buff alo, Heinlen was a player personnel analyst
with the NFL at the league offi ce.
Heinlen earned his master’s degree in Sports
Administrati on from the University of Florida in
1998 aft er receiving a bachelor’s degree in
fi nance in 1997. At Florida, Heinlen served as a
student assistant for the Gators’ football team.
Prior to transferring to Florida, Heinlen played
quarterback at North Central College in
Naperville, Illinois. Heinlen was a two-sport
athlete at Jupiter (Florida) High School. He and
his wife, Missy, have two sons, Colton and Knox.
RYAN MYERS WEST COAST AREA SCOUT
Ryan Myers enters his sixth season as a scout
in the Eagles’ personnel department. He
currently serves as the West Coast area scout
and has held numerous college and pro scouti ng
positi ons since joining the organizati on in 2013.
Prior to arriving in Philadelphia, Myers spent
seven years with the San Francisco 49ers
(2005-11) in various roles, including pro
personnel scout. He also worked as a scout with
the CFL’s Toronto Argonauts (2011-12) and with
the UFL’s Sacramento Mountain Lions (2012-13).
He also served as the director of player
personnel for the Kansas City Command
(2011-12) of the AFL.
Additi onally, Myers worked as a defensive line
coach at Cabrillo College (2011-12), as an
assistant head coach/defensive coordinator for
the San Jose Predators (2006) semipro team,
and as the defensive coordinator and defensive
line coach at Santa Cruz (California) High School.
The Santa Cruz, California nati ve (born May 2,
1981) earned a Bachelor of Science degree from
San Jose State in recreati on with an emphasis in
leadership and administrati on.
JIM WARD NORTHEAST AREA SCOUT
Jim Ward enters his third season with the
Eagles and fi rst as the team’s Northeast area
scout aft er serving as the Midwest area scout
Prior to becoming a full-ti me member of the
Eagles’ scouti ng department in the 2017
off season, Ward served as a consultant to the
personnel department leading up to the 2016
and 2017 NFL Draft s. As a consultant, Ward
focused his eff orts on evaluati ng the Mid-
American Conference and defensive line
prospects in the draft .
A former defensive tackle at Slippery Rock
University, Ward was a three-ti me allconference
selecti on and earned All-America
honors as a senior captain.
Following his college playing career, Ward
signed as an undraft ed free agent with the San
Diego Chargers in 1994. He went on to play for
the Memphis Mad Dogs of the Canadian
Football League in 1995 and the Connecti cut
Coyotes of the Arena Football League in 1996.
Ward earned a communicati ons degree from
Slippery Rock in 1998 and was inducted into
the school’s Hall of Fame in 2012. He and his
wife, Michelle, reside in Jeff erson Hills,
Pennsylvania and have two daughters,
Mackenzie and Miranda.
