the first competition
was held at the 1991
Fall Games in Raleigh.
Cycling competition is
now become part of
• Various events are held on both days of competition at
the state level.
• Each race on the track is a heat, but within that heat
there may be multiple divisions, or groupings, of
athletes competing against each other.
All awards are given as the race concludes.
Athletes report directly to an awards area
after each event.

everyone starting at once
TIME TRIALS: athletes have staggered

course, resist the urge
to walk on the course.
Cycling events include distances as short as
500m and as long as 40k.
Do You Know…
o The loop at the NC Highway Patrol Training Academy
is approximately 1.1 miles. This means the 15k road
race = 8 laps.
o The longer races of 25k (10 laps) and 40k (16 laps)
require an extension for distance.
