The Sioux Falls Skyforce organization, the longest-running minor
league basketball franchise in the United States, celebrated its
30-year anniversary this season. Basketball in Sioux Falls has been
highlighted by three championships, including two as a member
of the Continental Basketball Association in 1996 and 2005, and
most recently the 2016 NBA G League Championship. The Skyforce
entered a hybrid affi liation with the Miami HEAT in May of 2013
before the HEAT eventually purchased controlling interest in the
organization in the summer of 2017.
Current Head Coach Nevada Smith is in his third season at the helm
in Sioux Falls, and has a plethora of NBA talent at his disposal.
The 2018-19 Skyforce roster features 8 players who appeared in
training camp for the Miami HEAT, including two-way players
Duncan Robinson and Yante Maten along with Briante Weber,
DeAndre Liggins, Charles Cooke, Rodney Purvis, Raphiael Putney
and Marcus Lee.
As Head Coach of the Skyforce, Smith has guided fi ve players to
seven separate NBA Call-Ups. In total, the Skyforce organization has
seen 53 players receive a call-up on 84 occasions, and has had 26
different NBA players assigned to Sioux Falls 50 times since joining
the NBA G League.
