UTAH 49, UCLA 3
GAME TEN – NOV. 16 – SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH
SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah football program put together a balanced
offense and a smothering defense in its 49-3 win over the UCLA Bruins.
Utah finished the game with 536 yards of total offense (335 passing, 201
rushing) while holding UCLA to just 269 (219 yards passing, 50 rushing). Utah
forced five turnovers in the game that included three forced fumbles, all recovered
by Utah, and two interceptions.
Tyler Huntley was spectacular from start to finish, going for 335 passing yards
(14-of-18, 0 INT) and two touchdowns, adding his fifth rushing touchdown of the
season as well. Of Huntley’s passing yards, 132 of the yards went to playmaker
Brant Kuithe (5 catches) who finished with his first career 100-yard receiving game.
Zack Moss led the Utes in rushing with 17 carries for 127 yards and two
touchdowns, adding 73 receiving yards for a 200-yard all-purpose game. He
has now scored 13 rushing touchdowns this season, the most he has scored in
a season at Utah.
On defense, Julian Blackmon racked up a career-high 12 tackles (1.5 TFL, 1.5
sacks), adding a forced fumble and his fourth interception of the season. Terrell
Burgess added nine tackles (1.5 TFL, 0.5 sacks) and a forced fumble with Mika
Tafua scoring Utah’s defensive touchdown on a 68-yard fumble recovery return
with his five tackles (1.0 TFL).
UTAH 35, ARIZONA 7
GAME ELEVEN – NOV. 23 – TUCSON, ARIZONA
TUCSON, Ariz. – The University of Utah football team won its seventh game
in a row to improve to 10-1 overall and 7-1 in Pac-12 play, coming away with a
35-7 victory over Arizona.
It was balanced game on both sides of the ball for the Utes, holding Arizona
to just 196 yards (61 rush, 135 pass) of total offense while producing 517 themselves.
Utah finished the game with 297 yards rushing, a season-high for the
Utes and the most in a game since Utah rushed for 325 against UCLA last season.
Senior Zack Moss accounted for 203 of Utah’s 297 rushing yards against the
Wildcats, his second career 200-yard rushing game and his 18th career game
with 100+ rushing yards in a game. He finished the game with 26 carries and a
touchdown, averaging 7.8 yards per carry, also grabbing four catches for 32 yards.
Moss’ 203 yards against the Wildcats gives him 1,158 yards this season, making
him the first player in program history to have three, 1,000-yard rushing seasons
in a career. His rushing touchdown today also gives him 14 rushing scores this
year, one shy of tying the school record for single-season rushing touchdowns.
Tyler Huntley notched his 20th career 200-yard passing game, going 19-of-
23 (82%) with an interception and one passing touchdown. The Utes had eight
different players catch at least one pass, led by sophomore tight end Brant Kuithe
who recorded four passes for 81 yards, also scoring two rushing touchdowns (2
rush, 9 yds) to give him six total touchdowns this season.
On defense, Francis Bernard led the team in tackles with eight, adding 1.0
tackle for loss while Bradlee Anae racked up seven tackles along with a sack,
giving him 28.0 career sacks to rank second all-time in program history. Terrell
Burgess added five tackles to lead the secondary, giving Utah a balanced defensive
attack throughout the game.
