The 2012 Valero Alamo Bowl lived up to its billing as a down-to-the-wire contest. This was a back and
forth showdown with no shortage of big plays.
In front of a sold-out crowd, Texas trailed Oregon State 27-17 before rallying back to win the game.
Texas quarterback David Ash threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to Johnathan Gray to cut the lead to three and
later threw a 36-yard TD pass to Marquise Goodwin to give the Longhorns the win.
Goodwin, the offensive MVP, also had a 64-yard touchdown run in second quarter. Texas defensive end
Alex Okafor’s 4.5 sack performance set a Valero Alamo Bowl record. The senior pass rusher and defensive
MVP for the game also had nine tackles and a forced fumble. This win was the Longhorns 28th comeback
victory under Mack Brown and one of 17 that occurred in the fourth quarter.
The overall Valero Alamo Bowl record for teams leading at halftime dropped to 15-3 as the Beavers were
unable to hold on to their 20-10 halftime advantage.
