in elementary and middle school is asked to track the number of books
they read and the minutes they spend reading. School visits by Clippers
Players and Alumni, game tickets, books, bookmarks, t-shirts and grants
are also incentives provided for the program. The goal of Read to Achieve
is to build a lifelong love of reading in young people by providing greater
access to books and technology while encouraging families and adults to
read regularly with young children.
The LA Clippers STEAM Challenge invited students in elementary and
middle school to apply their knowledge and learning in the areas of
Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics to the world of
basketball. During the eight-week challenge, students worked as a team in
their classrooms to create a project representing the science of basketball.
Ten schools were selected as finalists and displayed their projects at the
STEAM Challenge Fair at STAPLES Center prior to an LA Clippers home
game. From the finalists, two projects were selected to each receive a
$2,000 grant to use to support STEAM curriculum at their school.
READ TO ACHIEVE STAY IN SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
The LA Clippers Foundation offers an opportunity to assist college-bound
students. Six $4,000 Stay in School Scholarships are offered to seniors
planning to attend a four-year college. Scholarships are made available
to students residing in the Greater Los Angeles area.
NBA Math Hoops is a fast-paced basketball board game, curriculum,
and community program that allows students to learn fundamental math
skills through direct engagement with the real statistics of their favorite
NBA and WNBA players. The NBA Math Hoops curriculum is tied to
Common Core State Standards and 21st Century Learning Skills, and it
has been shown to improve students’ basic math skills and understanding
of statistics, in addition to their interpersonal skills, driving them to
collaborate more effectively with their peers.
Students play the Math Hoops board game, complete curriculum
pieces, and participate in an incentive program that rewards top
participants and sites with apparel, game tickets, and experiences with
players. At the end of the season, the top students from each site are
invited to attend their regional championship tournament and compete
for the title of Math Champion!
The Jr. Clippers program promotes a healthy, active lifestyle for children
6-14 years of age by teaching them the fundamentals of basketball,
sportsmanship and athletics. Jr. Clippers participants receive a variety of
incentives throughout the year including a Jr. Clippers uniform, game
tickets, basketball clinic opportunities and discounts on each LA Clippers
Youth Basketball program. All teams participating in the Jr. Clippers
program are eligible for the Sportsmanship and Essay Program, designed
