Tim Berbenich enters his second season with
the Oakland Raiders, having 16 years of NFL
experience. Berbenich joined the Raiders in
2018 after spending five seasons with the Indianapolis Colts.
During his first season in Oakland, Berbenich worked closely with the offense
in his role as quality control – offense coach. With Berbenich’s assistance,
QB Derek Carr passed for a career-high 4,049 yards, while also achieving
career bests in completion percentage (68.9), passes completed (381) and
yards per attempt (7.3 avg.). Additionally, Carr set a franchise record with 332
consecutive pass attempts without an interception.
In his five seasons with the Colts, Berbenich assisted in numerous roles
on both the offense and defense, serving as the team’s offensive assistant
from 2013-14, defensive assistant in 2015 and offensive assistant/assistant
quarterbacks coach in 2016-17. The team won two division titles (2013-14)
in Berbenich’s first two seasons as an offensive assistant, going 11-5 in backto
back years.
Before joining the Colts’ staff, Berbenich served as an assistant wide
receivers coach with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2009-11. Berbenich
broke into the NFL coaching ranks with the New York Jets as offensive assistant
in 2003-04 and additionally as a quality control coach for the team in 2005.
He helped coach the Jets to two postseason appearances (2002 and 2004)
during his tenure with the team.
PERSONAL: Native of Huntington, N.Y. …Before coaching, served in
the New York Jets team operations department as an intern in 2000, before
earning a full-time role in 2002 as an operations assistant…Attended Hamilton
College, where he played wide receiver while also completing his degree in
economics…Has a wife, Diane, and two sons, Jack (nine) and Drew (six).
BRENTSON BUCKNER
DEFENSIVE LINE

Brentson Buckner enters his first season with
the Silver and Black, bringing 18 years of NFL
experience, including the last six years with
both the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Arizona Cardinals.
Buckner spent the 2018 campaign with the Buccaneers as the club’s
defensive line coach. In just one season, Buckner fielded a defensive front
that improved the team’s sack total by 16, totaling 38 on the year to tie for
19th-most in the NFL in 2018 after finishing last in the league the year prior.
Prior to his one-year stint with the Buccaneers, Buckner spent five seasons
with the Arizona Cardinals (2013-17) in the same capacity. During that time,
the Cardinals defense totaled for 203 sacks, a mark that tied for seventh-most
in the NFL. Additionally, the team ranked second in rushing yards allowed per
game (93.8 avg.), third in yards allowed (324.7 avg.), fourth in rushing yards
per attempt (3.81 avg.) and sixth in points allowed per game (20.7 avg.) during
that same span.
He served as a training camp intern with the Pittsburgh Steelers from 2010-
12 following his two-year stint (2008-09) as head coach of Northside Christian
Academy in Charlotte, N.C. Buckner began his coaching career as a defensive
coordinator for Victory Christian Academy in 2007.
PERSONAL: Native of Columbus, Ga. …Selected in the second round (50th
overall) by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 1994 NFL Draft…Played 12 years
professionally, spending time with the Steelers (1994-96), Cincinnati Bengals
(1997), San Francisco 49ers (1998-2000) and Carolina Panthers (2001-05),
appearing in 174 games with 127 starts…Played four seasons (1990-93) with
the Clemson Tigers and finished third on the school’s all-time sacks list…He
and his wife, Denise, have two daughters, Nia and Nya, and a son, Brandon.
