January 19—Al Davis named head coach and general
manager of Raiders. February 8—Dallas Texans
announce move of franchise to Kansas City, becoming the
Chiefs. March 28—New York Titans sold to group headed
by David (Sonny) Werblin. Club becomes the Jets. May
11—AFL allowed Oakland and New York to select players
from other franchises to provide more competitive balance.
September 7—Raiders debut Silver and Black uniforms
at Houston, defeat Oilers 24-13 in first game under Al
Davis. September 15—Silver and Black uniforms first
appearance at home, Raiders defeat Buffalo Bills 35-17.
November 3—Raiders make first appearance in Kansas
City, defeating the Chiefs 10-7. November 30—1964
AFL Draft held, Raiders select Arizona State RB Tony Lorick
in the first round and eventual starting middle linebacker
Dan Conners in the second. December 22—Raiders
down Houston, 52-49, to finish one game out of playoffs
with 10-4-0 record, first winning season in club history.
December 28—Boston defeats Buffalo 26-8 in first ever
AFL playoff game, Boston advances to AFL title game to
face San Diego. Halfback Clem Daniels named MVP by
The Sporting News after leading the league in rushing with
a then-record 1,099 yards.

January 7—First AFL All-Star Game held: West defeats East, 47-
27, before 20,973 at San Diego. June 27—Special draft of veteran
players established to assist Oakland and Denver. September 9—
Raiders make Frank Youell Field debut in Oakland, fall to New York
Titans 28-17. September 23—Cotton Davidson makes first start as
Raiders quarterback after arriving via trade with Dallas Texans, loses
to his former team 26-16. October 16—Marty Feldman fired, Red
Conkright named head coach. December 1—1963 AFL Draft held,
Raiders don’t pick until the 6th round due to trades, select Alabama
RB Butch Wilson with their 6th round pick. December 16—Raiders
finish the season 1-13, lone victory is 20-0 win over Boston in the
season finale. December 23—Dallas Texans defeat Houston Oilers
20-17 in AFL Championship.
January 5—San Diego Chargers defeat Boston Patriots 51-
10 to win AFL title. January 29—AFL and NBC sign a fiveyear,
$36-million television contract to begin with 1965 season.
November 28—1965 AFL Draft held, Raiders select Memphis
State tackle Harry Schuh in the first round and Florida State WR
Fred Biletnikoff in the second. December 20—After starting season
0-5, Raiders rebound to finish 5-7-2 including a 21-20 win over San
Diego in the season finale. December 26—Buffalo tops San Diego
20-7 to win AFL Championship.
