SHAWN HEINLEN SOUTHWEST AREA SCOUT
Shawn Heinlen was hired by the Eagles
as a Southwest area scout in the 2018
offseason after serving as a consultant
for the Reese’s Senior Bowl in 2017.
Prior to joining the Eagles’ scouting staff,
Heinlen spent 16 seasons with the Buffalo
Bills. From 2003-17, he served as a college
area scout after being promoted from the
role of college scouting administrator (2001-
2003). Heinlen began his career with the
Bills in 1999 as a Training Camp intern.
After his internship with Buffalo, Heinlen
worked as a player personnel analyst with
the NFL league office from 2000-2001
before returning to the Bills in 2001.
Heinlen played quarterback at North Central
College in Naperville, IL, before transferring
to the University of Florida where he served
as a student assistant for the Gators’ football
team. He received his bachelor’s degree
in finance and a master’s degree in sports
administration from the University of Florida.
Heinlen resides in Celina, Texas, with his wife,
Missy, and their two sons, Colton and Knox.
RYAN MYERS WEST COAST AREA SCOUT
Ryan Myers enters his seventh season as a
scout in the Eagles’ personnel department.
He currently serves as the club’s West
Coast area scout and has held numerous
college and pro scouting positions within
the Eagles’ personnel department since
joining the organization in 2013.
Prior to arriving in Philadelphia,
Myers spent seven years with the San
Francisco 49ers (2005-11) in various
roles, including pro personnel scout.
He also worked as a scout with the CFL’s
Toronto Argonauts (2011-12) and with the UFL’s
Sacramento Mountain Lions (2012- 13). He also
served as the director of player personnel for
the Kansas City Command (2011-12) of the AFL.
Additionally, Myers worked as a defensive
line coach at Cabrillo College (2011-12),
as an assistant head coach/defensive
coordinator for the San Jose Predators
(2006) semi-pro team, and as the defensive
coordinator and defensive line coach at
Santa Cruz (CA) High School (2001-05).
The Santa Cruz, CA native (born May 2,
1981) earned a Bachelor of Science degree
from San Jose State in recreation with an
emphasis in leadership and administration.
JIM WARD NORTHEAST AREA SCOUT
Jim Ward enters his fourth season
with the Eagles and his second as the
team’s Northeast area scout.
Ward joined the Eagles scouting department
full time in 2017 when he was hired as
the club’s midwest area scout. Prior to
becoming a full-time member of the
department, Ward served as a consultant
to the personnel department leading up
to the 2016 and 2017 NFL Drafts. As a
consultant, Ward focused his efforts on
evaluating the Mid-American Conference
and defensive line prospects in the draft.
A former defensive tackle at Slippery
Rock University, Ward was a three-time
all-conference selection and earned All-
America honors as a senior captain.
Following his college playing career, Ward
signed as an undrafted free agent with the San
Diego Chargers in 1994. He went on to play
for the Memphis Mad Dogs of the Canadian
Football League in 1995 and the Connecticut
Coyotes of the Arena Football League in 1996.
Ward earned a communications degree
from Slippery Rock in 1998 and was inducted
into the school’s Hall of Fame in 2012.
He and his wife, Michelle, reside in
Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania, and have two
daughters, Mackenzie and Miranda.
