FAMOUS IDAHO POTATO BOWL
HUMANITARIAN AWARD WINNER
The Nevada football program is honored
to select sixth-year senior linebacker
Lucas Weber as its Humanitarian of
the Year representative for the Famous
Idaho Potato Bowl.
A consummate team leader, Weber is at the
forefront of the Wolf Pack’s community service
and outreach eff orts, with a volunteering record at
the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Truckee Meadows
and Kids Kottage, a temporary country facility
that provides shelter for abused and neglected
children. He’s also worked at community
fundraising events to benefi t the Children’s Cancer
Foundation and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
He’s also worked at Operation Santa, a holiday
fundraiser that supports The Children’s Cabinet,
a Reno non-profi t whose mission has been to keep
children safe and families together by providing
services and resources that address unmet needs
through a unique and eff ective cooperative
eff ort between the private sector and public
agencies in Nevada.
Weber, who has given his time at a local food
kitchen feeding homeless citizens, was a nominee
for this season’s Allstate Good Works Team,
presented by the American College Football
Weber graduated from Nevada with a degree in
public health. He’s currently a 4.0 graduate student
in secondary education, and was recently named
a fi rst-team Academic All-American, the fi rst such
honor for a Wolf Pack football student-athlete
since 2002. Outside of the campus classroom,
Weber has worked in local schools, including
reading to students at Anderson Elementary
School and the Lemelson STEM Academy.
Weber was a nominee for this year’s Burlsworth
Trophy, a national college football award that is
bestowed to the nation’s top player who began
his career as a walk-on. A local product from
Reno’s McQueen High School, Weber walked
on to Nevada and later suff ered a season-ending
knee surgery during his third season. He later was
awarded a scholarship and became a starter and
team leader, having been voted a captain by his
teammates prior to this season.
Weber resides in Reno with his wife, Taylor.
The couple was married in the summer of 2019.
