could use a free safety, I know you’re an athlete. If you aren’t scared to hit, the job’s yours.’ So yeah, that’s kind of how it went. I was kind of natural at the position just being a ballhawk. I went out and had like nine interceptions, I ran like three of them to the crib. (laughing) I had a crazy season and the next thing you know I’m just getting heavily recruited for football and the rest is history.” Q: How early during your playing career did you realize that you could be playing in the National Football League? Amerson: “Pretty much after I started getting all of the attention my junior year of high school. That’s when I really started, you know, just kind of looking up people and really getting into the sport. I really started studying other players, stuff like that. I always thought I was going to play free safety. So, I was looking up a lot of free safeties back then. I’ve always been this tall. I was a 6’2” guard, but a 6’2” DB (defensive back) is valued in different ways. I was like, ‘Man, I’m going to really take a run at this and go full steam ahead.’” Q: What was the first thing that came to mind when you found out you were going to be playing for the Raiders?
