School is about so much more than what’s learned in the classroom.
The Special Olympics Unified Champion Schools Program, part of the Special Olympics
Schools Partnership Program, is a unique education program for pre-k through transition
students that unifies peers with and without intellectual disabilities through sports and
whole-school activities, promoting inclusion and understanding at an early age.
Students have the opportunity to interact with others from different backgrounds;
learn and develop social skills; form trusting relationships with teachers and advisors;
and experience a wide range of activities, sports, music and more.
How it Works
The Schools Partnership Program utilizes its sports and education programs to
promote school communities where all young people are agents of change – fostering
respect, dignity and advocacy for people with intellectual disabilities. What develops
is a positive school climate with a safe and nurturing learning environment for all
By helping to instill these values at an early age, the Schools Partnership Program aims
to build a more inclusive future for everyone.
