Young Athletes Program (YAP)
What does every parent want for their child?
The chance to kick and throw a ball, run around and share their
achievements with family and friends.
Children with intellectual disabilities, and their parents, are no different.
Young Athletes Program (YAP) is a unique sports and play program
designed for children ages 2-7 with intellectual disabilities. YAP focuses on
the basics that are crucial to cognitive development: physical activities that develop motor skills and handeye
coordination, and the application of these physical skills through sports and social interaction.
In addition, YAP incorporates children with and without intellectual disabilities to participate together –
promoting meaningful interactions that build foundations of respect and inclusion. The program also
serves as an introduction to Special Olympics programs and resources for families.
